Laura Linney, best known for portraying strong, but vulnerable characters, is one of the most well-known American actors of today. Born to a famous playwright's father but raised by a single mother, who earned her living by working as a nurse. She was drawn to theatre when spending summers with her father and eventually pursuing a degree in acting first in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After just two short years after graduation the actress began her Broadway career. In the following year, she made her debut in TV and film. Since then, she has appeared in countless films and TV and stage productions. Her nominations include three Academy Awards, five Tony Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her professional career. The actress has received nominations for five Tony Awards, and three Academy Award nominations. However, despite her distinctions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she will continue to perform on the stage and on screen.
